Why Tallow?

Hey friends,

If you’ve been anywhere near skincare lately, you’ve probably noticed tallow popping up everywhere. It feels like one of those things that went from nowhere to everywhere overnight. I totally get the curiosity, and I also understand the hesitation. Some of you are just weirded out at the thought of rubbing fat into your skin, and some of you have tried tallow lotions from other makers and been pretty disappointed. You’ve told me they sat on top of your skin like a greasy layer, didn’t absorb, and in some cases even made you break out.

I hear you. When I started creating my own lotion, I wanted it to feel familiar...lotiony, not greasy. After a few trial and errors, I landed on a recipe I think everyone will love.

A little over two years ago, I made a big shift to a more holistic, whole-food lifestyle. I successfully got off of four pharmaceuticals that I never needed to be on in the first place. Just by changing my relationship with food, I've been able to actually start healing my body of the things that the meds were only bandaids for.  I also started to think of not just what I put in my body, but also on it. Our skin is our largest organ after all, absorbing everything we put on it. So I started making Truth Tallow + Jojoba Body Lotion for myself, and now I want to share it with you.

The Science Behind It

Your skin naturally produces sebum, a mix of fatty acids that keeps it protected and balanced. Grass-fed beef tallow has a fatty acid profile that’s remarkably close to that natural sebum. We’re talking high levels of oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid, the same ones your skin already recognizes and knows how to use.

Because it’s so biocompatible, tallow helps repair your skin barrier instead of just sitting on top of it. It’s also naturally rich in fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K, which support cell turnover, calm inflammation, and deeply nourish without needing any synthetic BS.

But Not All Tallow Lotions Are the Same

The difference is in how it’s used and what it’s mixed with.

Pure tallow can feel heavy on some people. That’s where my formula comes in. I blend grass-fed tallow with organic jojoba oil, which is actually a wax ester that mimics sebum even more closely and helps the whole blend absorb faster and lighter. Jojoba keeps things from feeling greasy while still delivering lasting hydration.

Then I add:
- Organic rosehip seed oil for natural vitamins A and C, plus essential fatty acids that help with texture, scars, and glow.
- Raw honey as a gentle humectant that pulls moisture in and holds it there.
- Rosemary extract for its antioxidant protection and to keep the formula fresh.

Together, these ingredients turn tallow from something that can feel thick and greasy into a silky, fast-absorbing lotion that sinks in and actually hydrates. That’s why my friends who tried other tallow products before now say mine leaves their skin feeling soft, balanced, and truly moisturized, not oily or clogged.

The Bottom Line

Tallow isn’t just a trend to me. It’s practical. It’s one of the most skin-compatible ingredients out there when it’s sourced well, grass-fed, and thoughtfully combined with the right partners.

If your skin has felt dry, irritated, or just off no matter what you’ve tried, something this close to your own natural oils might be exactly what you’ve been missing.

I’d love for you to try it and see how it feels on your skin. No hype, just honest ingredients that work.
